FAQs
How much does TECH-SHRED pay for hardware?
Depends entirely on hardware. For hardware less than 5 years old you can expect to get 25% of the fair market value, between 5 and 10 years usually we will take for free. For items older than 10 or newer items with substantial damage there may be a fee for collection. Exceptional security measures such as on-site shredding may also incur charges.
But Dell/Apple/Another Vendor has offered to buy my hardware back!
Tech-shred will consider matching buy-back quotes from vendors, usually these are low enough to be easily justified. All of tech-shred's major customers have a vendor who would like to buy back at least some of their hardware for credit. Our customers come to us for great service, flexibility and the cause that we support. Also, customers seems to like the idea of supporting a smaller local organization.
What do you do with hardware?
For local pick-up hardware with non-volatile storage is taken by our technicians in partitioned, secured, vans, directly to our facility where it is taken processed in a restricted access area. In that room we use proprietary methods to sanitize the storage on each device and verify that it is sanitized and, if everything goes well, a certificate of destruction is sent to the origin facility. We have a set of strategies for minimizing waste including resale, material separation and recycling.
